Reverend Vincent Belle was born in St. Lucy. He was an Anglian priest for 18 years following his retirement from the field of education, where he served for 40 years as Teacher, Head Teacher and Education Officer.
He was married to Evelyn Gwendolyn Meta Belle (nee Daniel) who predeceased him after 62 years of marriage. They had seven children, 22 grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
The Anglican cleric led an active life and was involved in church activities prior to becoming an ordained priest. Reverend Belle was a server and a lay reader at St. Mary’s Church, the City. He was also in charge of the Sunday School for many years and was a senior officer in the Church Lads’ Brigade. He was also President of the Young Men’s Christian Association, the Barbados Union of Teachers and the Caribbean Union of Teachers.
Reverend Belle’s physical health was maintained through walking and bicycling well into his 50’s. He only acquired a car when his job situation dictated.
One of his hobbies was taking long Sunday afternoon walks with his children as he educated them about Bridgetown and its environs when he resided in Tudor Street and Cheapside before moving to All Saints Rectory, St. Peter.
As a strict disciplinarian, Reverend Belle, who resided at “Domus” Kingfish Close, Heywoods Estates, St. Peter, lived his life peacefully and righteously. Reverend Belle’s children praised him for being firm, correct, upright and civil.
