Marjorie Doreta Banfield has helped to shape the academic achievements of many Barbadians.  She grew up in Brighton, Black Rock, St. Michael where she attended St. Stephen’s Mixed School and later, the St. Michael School.

On leaving St. Michael’s, Ms. Banfield taught at her alma mater until she retired from the teaching service.

Marjorie was never married nor had any children.  However, she looked after her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and ensured that they were outfitted with school uniforms.

Though blind and deaf in one ear, the centenarian has no major ailments and was a devout worshipper at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church.

Ms. Banfield spends her days very quietly and still enjoys eating cou cou and drinking soup.
