Matilda Walker (nee Sargeant) was born in the small village of Carrington, St. Philip.   The oldest of five children, “Dootsie” was entrusted with the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings.

Matilda began her working career as a teenager being employed by Fitzherbert Daniel as a babysitter/cook.  After her stint with the Daniels, “Dootsie” went to work at Carrington’s Sugar Factory until 1969.

Married to Frederick Walker, in 1960, she moved to Ellerton St. George where they raised their four children. 

Matilda was a devout worshipper at St. Luke’s Anglican Church and was a member of the Church Army
